And I have no pictures to prove it! It's all M's fault. He needed to leave L's graduation ceremony as soon as it was over to get to S's graduation ceremony on time. Besides, she thought she looked dorky in the cap and gown so she probably would have hated any picture and never would have forgiven me if I posted for everyone to see anyway.
We are so proud of L! She graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in English yesterday! She worked so hard for the four years (and one quarter) she was at Western.
One might say, "What can you do with a degree in English? Besides teach?" I answer with this: L didn't just learn about English. She read great literature and poetry, she wrote extensive papers, she learned about technical writing, publishing, editing, etc, etc. And that's not all! She learned the same qualities that her brothers are learning in Taekwondo: Perseverance. Indomitable spirit.
And she wasn't the typical college student either. She got mostly A's (a few A-minuses), finished all her homework and papers on time, didn't hang out in bars, and paid for her entire education out of her own pocket without loans. She worked very hard applying for scholarships and maintaining them. And she made sure she worked enough hours at the library to take care of her expenses outside of school. If she needed new tires for her car, she could buy new tires. During her last week of college, she showed what an incredible, dedicated, and focused student she was: she finished her projects even though she had to be in the computer lab on the very last day of school. She is a very rare gem indeed.
Congratulations L!
