Big break in the red circle |
Why did this have to happen to us? We are already hand-washing dishes until tax return time (and do I hear a funny squeaking sound when the dryer runs?). Well, it just so happened that I was talking to my dad and making plans for them to come visit Heidi. Mark, in the background, asked, "Does your dad still have their old oven hangin' around?" He was joking, but I asked anyway. My parents had the same old wall oven (only ten years younger) in their kitchen and recently remodeled. I was hoping it was still hanging around- we could salvage the element and maybe the knobs!
And guess what? They did! Only it wasn't the ancient oven I remember; they replaced their old wall oven with a newer model the year before their remodel and THAT oven was in their garage. My dad blessed us by bringing it over. He said I owed him "big time" though. All I have to do is take good care of him when he gets old. No problem!
Mark, who always loves a new project, got right to work rewiring the new oven into the old plug. He watched You Tube videos and framed in a new space for our now single wall oven. The lower space will be used to...store our cast iron.
One of these days, we will be able to remodel and create the industrial-sized kitchen with matching everything we dream of... but until then, we sure are thankful for our new oven!
