"Fiona, you can't ride your bike in that dress! Go put on something else you CAN ride in!"
"Okay, not what I meant. But okay."

Our sweet, fancy Fiona really doesn't change from year to year.  She is such a wonderful, hilarious, dramatic little girl.  We love her!

Smile

A series of photos from this afternoon; they tell a funny story:

Ian and I think Heidi looks like the Afghan girl from National Geographic (only happier):

Ian also thinks she looks like Gollum.  Not Smeagol.  I took Heidi to Fiona's dance class today and all the tapping really got her crazy.  She stared at the little girls brush-hopping across the floor until of them turned to Fiona and said, "That baby is freaky!"  Fiona said, "That's my baby sister."  The girl said, "Well, she is FREAKY! She won't stop staring at me!"

It might have been the jelly beans...

First Class Scout

Mark, Ian, and Shane went camping this past weekend.  The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts shared one camp and enjoyed earning fishing merit badges and belt loops on opening day for trout season.  This was the first time the Downen boys were able to go fishing on opening day since Mark is working (he worked on this opening day too).

One of the requirements for the fishing merit badge is catching, cleaning, and cooking a fish.  And Ian did it! Note that EATING said fish is not required for the merit badge.  But Ian ate his fish too (he caught two).

Shane (in the green and black jacket) practiced catch and release and caught three trout.  He also decided that fishing is way more fun than video games.  This was Shane's LAST camp out as a Cub Scout.  In just a few days, he will be receiving his Arrow of Light award and crossing over into Boy Scouts!

Ian also completed the last requirements he needed for First Class Scout.  He lashed a tripod ("It was such a nice tripod. The Scoutmaster could hang from it." -Ian), completed Safety Afloat (boat safety), and meal planning.

It rained most of the weekend.  Ian's tent mate pitched their tent in a low spot.  The second night, when it really poured, their tent flooded!  Both boys ended up abandoning their tent and sleeping in the covered eating area...

...on cement!  Ian's spot wasn't wet, but he was a good friend and stayed with his buddy.  You only need to learn once that pitching a tent in a low area is a bad idea.

And, of course, Mark can't go on a camp out without organizing a polar bear swim.  One brave parent and our two boys were the only ones to join him.  I hear it was pretty cold!  All three of them came home in high spirits.  Scouting has been very good for them.

TODASTWD

TODASTWD stands for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, an event that happens on the fourth Thursday of April every year.  I didn't know, so I didn't participate.  But then I found out, so I made up for it on Friday. So out of the classroom they came...

...and they didn't even know the difference...

Sometimes life is that good!

Ten Years Ago

Sometimes I cannot believe how much time has gone by and how fast it went.  Ten years ago, in April of 2004, life was so different!
Ian was still spoiling sibling pictures, only because he was two years old (almost)
Taz was our Pathetic Doberman
Grandad came for the weekend and our calendar was from the Ferndale School District
The T-shirt says it all...Can you believe that was TEN years ago?
I had two babies, just over a year apart...kinda like now I suppose...
This little boy is now celebrating his 16th birthday...and driving!
And this little boy no longer throws temper tantrums like this...but his sister does!
But some things never change...I swear I saw Shane jump on Ian while he was reading just this morning.
Sometimes I really miss the "good ole days" and my babies and the girls when they were younger.  I don't miss the old yucky house.  I do miss my cool rug with leaves.  I don't miss that plastic table cloth.  I do miss the flowering trees Mark worked so hard to cultivate in our front yard (that the new owners cut down).  But most of the time? I guess I'm happy enough right where I am with what blessing I have.  I wonder what life will look like in ten more years?

Easter Buddies

Buddies help with shoes

Buddies help with eggs

One chicken lays her egg behind the papaya tree every morning and every morning Daniel runs to get it.  This morning, the Easter buddy, who knows his little brother very well, left a nice green egg next to the hen's egg.

Another Buddy sighting!

Buddies come in all ages

That's all Lula needed.  She's done.

The egg trading commences before all the eggs are found

I love the way the hen is following Shane around.

My napping buddy.

A creative basket
A Happy Easter to All!
